James Gunn is revealing the way he let Henry Cavill know they were going to be replacing him in 2025′s Superman.
Henry‘s cameo in Black Adam had DCEU fans excited to see him don his cape as the man of steel again in the future. But when James and Peter Safran took over, they had a different vision for the future of the franchise.

James was a guest on the Happy Sad Confused podcast on Friday (July 18) and he talked about letting Henry know about the change of plans.
“So Peter and I — the right thing to do was to sit down with [Henry] and talk to him. And we sat down, we talked to him. He was an absolute gentleman, a great guy about it,” James shared on the podcast.
He went on to explain that Henry only had one request during their conversation: “He said, ‘The only thing I ask is that I’m able to reveal it myself, as opposed to it coming from you guys.’ And I’m like, That’s… he’s a class actor. He has been from the start.”
James also shared that he would be happy to cast Henry in another role someday, even though it won’t be as Kal-El himself.
