Andy Cohen is sharing why he doesn’t think it was necessary for CBS to cancel The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
During the Monday (July 21) episode of SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live, the 57-year-old host shared his thoughts on the late night show being canceled.
According to Andy, the network had options for making the show work before they decided to scrap it entirely.

CBS had previously claimed that the cancellation was a financial decision. On the episode, Andy said CBS claimed that they were losing $40 million per year on the show, which he said seemed entirely possible.
Andy said on the episode that in order to work around the financial issues for such a staple of the network, they had options before cancelling. He said, “… What they would probably do is say, ‘Listen, Stephen, your show is losing X amount of money a year. There’s two things we could do. We could cut the budget in half, maybe move out of the Ed Sullivan Theater, do the show in a small studio that we already own’ because CBS has a lot of studio space.”
Andy also proposed that the network could have cut down on staff members or reduced production days in order to help lower the budget in other ways.
“Cut down on staff. You have 200 people working here. We needed to be 100 people or 60 and instead of you doing your show five days a week, we’re gonna do your show four days a week and you’re gonna gonna pre-tape your Thursday show, so you’re actually gonna be in production three days a week. That’s a way right there to cut the budget at least in half,” Andy proposed and went on to say that CBS pulling the plug on the show is a sign that the network is “cooked.”
If you missed it, there’s been a call for an investigation into the show’s cancellation.
