It’s official: The Devil Wears Prada really is getting a sequel. And it began production basically the day Anna Wintour stepped down from her EIC title at Vogue. Coincidence?
Though ideas for a TDWP sequel have been percolating for years, fans really began getting their hopes up when Anne Hathaway wore a cerulean dress to reunite with Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt at the 2024 SAG Awards. By July 2024, Variety reported that a sequel to the 2006 fashion comedy was in early development at Disney, though Hathaway’s return to the Princess Diaries universe appeared to take priority for the 42-year-old actor once she confirmed her involvement in October 2024. Here’s everything we know about the scandalous new film.

What’s the sequel about?
Per Variety, “the storyline reportedly follows Miranda Priestly as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing. She faces off against Blunt’s character, her one-time assistant who is now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs. It’s not clear how Hathway’s Andy Sachs will factor into the story; at the end of the first film, she quits Runway and takes a job at a newspaper. David Frankel and Aline Brosh McKenna, who directed and wrote the original film, are returning for the sequel. Producer Karen Rosenfelt also returns.”
As of July 20, 2025, filming is already underway. Anne Hathaway was photographed in New York City filming scenes in character as Andy Sachs.

Clearly, a bit of Hathaway’s own personal style seems to have rubbed off on her onscreen alter ego (the actor is the queen of cool, comfortable city style), though it looks like Andy is still putting the lessons she learned from Miranda Priestly to good use too. Peep the Chanel sandals.…
So, is Andy still a journalist? The harried energy of the second photo, where she’s seen running across a street while chatting on the phone, makes me think the answer is yes.
Who is in the cast?
The core four are returning, and will be joined by several heavy hitters.
On June 30, Deadline reported that filming was under way with Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Anne Hathaway, and Stanley Tucci all reprising their roles, plus English actor-director Kenneth Branagh playing the new Mr. Miranda Priestley.
Honestly, when we first heard that Branagh had joined the cast, we thought he was the perfect choice for Emily’s dad.… Did someone say “wicked-stepmother plot”?
