Los Bukis are standing with their immigrant fanbase — and using one of their biggest career moments to honor them. On Wednesday, the Marco Antonio Solis-fronted group unveiled their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and used their speech to speak up for the people who “constructed our careers.”
“More than anything, we dedicate this star to all immigrants gathered here [and] in this beautiful country, to all workers who strive every day to work,” Solís said onstage. “I call them the silent force of service in this country. They’re silent but making a lot of noise and do so much for this country.”
He added, “In these times of adversity, we want to say that we are with you. Our hearts go out to all those who are suffering from the hardships we are going through. We fully trust that this will have a solution.”
Solís was surrounded by his fellow bandmates — Javier and Joel Solís; Pepe and Roberto Guadarrama; Pedro Sánchez; and Eusebio “El Chivo” Cortez — as he addressed the crowd. Los Bukis reunited after 25 years in 2021, performing sold-out shows at massive venues such as Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium, Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium, and New York’s MetLife Stadium.
Originally founded in 1976, the group disbanded in 1996 as Marco Antonio built a successful career as a solo artist, earning five Latin Grammys, with songs including “Más Que Tu Amigo” and “Si No Te Hubieras Ido.” He won the Latin Recording Academy’s Person of the Year distinction in 2022. The members of Los Bukis formed Los Mismos, or “The Same Ones,” with Pedro Velásquez as their frontman.
“It is a special, wonderful day… a blessing from God, but look, thanks to our reunion, we can be here celebrating this blessing that God has given us,” Solís said onstage as he accepted the group’s star. “How many of us came here to look at the stars here, and now we have one.”
Los Bukis were introduced by comedian Gabriel “Iglesias” Fluffy and Oscar-nominated actor Demián Bichir. Among the group’s biggest hits are songs such as “Yo Te Necesito,” Tu Cárcel,” “Cómo Fui A Enamorarme De Ti,” “Y Ahora Te Vas,” and “Mi Mayor Necesidad.”
