Murders are not the only dependable thing on the set of Only Murders in the Building.
Logan Lerman has joined the cast of the hit Hulu mystery series for its upcoming fifth season, joining Selena Gomez, Martin Short and Steve Martin in what Lerman, 33, calls a set that’s “even more fun” than it looks like.
“It’s an oddly fun set to be on,” Lerman tells PEOPLE at Sony Pictures Classics and The Cinema Society’s Oh, Hi! screening at the Roxy Cinema and Jimmy on July 22.
The actor is quick to gush about his experience working on the show’s upcoming season, but he remains tight-lipped on what kind of role he’s going to play.
As he admits that “sometimes, sets are not that enjoyable,” he praises Only Murders for being “a really good one.”

“It’s so great. That’s a really fun show to work on,” Lerman says. “I had a really good time.”
When it comes to how his unidentified character is going to fit in amongst the murder-solving trio, Lerman plays it coy. “I don’t want to ruin anything, but I’m excited for people to see it.”
Lerman is in good company as he joins the crew in the Arconia alongside several other big names.
In April, Renée Zellweger, Christoph Waltz and Lerman’s casting were announced at the same time in an Instagram post.
There are several other stars confirmed to guest star this season, including Bobby Cannavale, Téa Leoni, Keegan-Michael Key, Beanie Feldstein, Dianne Wiest and Jermaine Fowler.
Season 5 will see Charles (Martin), Oliver (Short) and Mabel (Gomez) investigate the death of their doorman, Lester, who “dies under suspicious circumstances,” and the trio “refuse to believe it was an accident,” per the official synopsis.
“Their investigation plunges them into the shadowy corners of New York and beyond — where the trio uncovers a dangerous web of secrets connecting powerful billionaires, old-school mobsters and the mysterious residents of the Arconia.”
The synopsis continues, “The trio discovers a deeper divide between their storied city they thought they knew and the new New York evolving around them — one where the old mob fights to hold on as newer, even more dangerous players emerge.”

There’s an undeniable special sauce in the air on Only Murders, and Lerman is not the first to describe it.
“It’s a very, very, very loose, fun-filled set,” Short, 75, has previously told PEOPLE. “I think everyone has the same review of that working on the show — that it’s really fun and loose — and that’s kind of the philosophy of Steve, the way he’s always worked, and so is Selena.”
“Everyone works in joy and happiness, because we’re lucky people,” Short said last year.
