A hotel employee is asking guests to stop leaving their kids unattended during their stays.
On July 19, a Reddit user took to the forum to explain a recent experience they had while working. The original poster (OP) recalled having “p—– off guests who couldn’t sleep” because of disruptive kids whose parents, he says, were nowhere to be found.
“I called the guest’s phone to find out why their kids were alone,” the OP claims. “They left an [8-year-old] alone with his [12-year-old] brother in the room.”
But the kids didn’t stay in their room for long.
“Their kids were running out and down the hallway banging on doors,” the OP claims. “Security had to go up and stand outside the door until the parents returned.”

“Why would you even feel comfortable leaving your KIDS alone in an environment filled with people? Someone could easily walk off with your kid,” they write.
“Your kids could easily get hurt in the gym? The pool area? Wander outside? End up on another floor and get snatched by someone? Then what?”
The poster goes on to claim the family then got heated when they were informed their kids had to return to their rooms or needed adult supervision at all times.
“It’s a HOTEL not a daycare,” the OP emphasizes in their post before questioning the parents’ reasoning.
The employee then shared another time a child was left alone in their hotel. They were forced to call the non-emergency police number because a child who was about 3 or 4 years old, was unattended. The employee couldn’t get in contact with her parents and waited until shift change “JUST in case [the] parent(s) were working and didn’t have anyone to watch her (times are tough).”
Following the original post, the user added a quick edit: “A lot of people think they have the best acting kids on this planet. I promise, they are not when you’re not around.”
Many users in the comments took issue with the parents.

“The funny thing is I would rather leave my 11-year-old daughter in a hotel than my 18-year-old son,” one writes. “Sounds like bad parenting to me.”
“Exactly,” someone responded. “Parents should know which of their kids are reliable and which ones will forget to eat.”
Others said the children were old enough to be alone, but these specific kids were immature.
“Stop the infantilizing of kids,” one commenter says. “These particular kids were behaving badly and the parents should have taken accountability, but the solution isn’t some stranger demanding that they be supervised at all times. Stop it.”

“This sounds fine?” another user questions. “At 12, I was already taking the subway on my own for a couple of years. Blame the parents for being terrible at disciplining them kids.”
Someone else puts it simply: “The reason they have ‘adults only’ hotels and resorts.”
