- Palmer also brought back her now-signature auburn hair in a halo-inspired style.
Naked dresses became a red carpet staple in the 2010s, but some of the most iconic barely-there dressing moments date back before the Noughties. Case in point: A sheer asymmetrical Versace dress covered in peekaboo mesh panels that’s become a fashion archives favorite after Naomi Campbell wore it at a ‘90s party. Now, vintage fashion fan and star Keke Palmer is giving the daring look a second life—and reminding fans just how iconic the dress is—as she stepped out in the torso-baring number on July 27.
The multi-hyphenate turned heads on the red carpet of The Pickup world premiere in Los Angeles on Monday night, thanks to her familiar look. Palmer rewore Campbell’s iconic ensemble at the 13th Annual Night of Stars in 1996, donning the same Versace cut-out design with one small difference. Unlike the supermodel’s version, which featured an asymmetrical long sleeve on the left side, Keke’s strapless dress had a sheer mesh strap instead. However, the rest of the floor-length gown was the same, embellished with shimmering, strategically-placed panels over her breasts and snaking across her hips, flashing bare swatches of skin on her stomach, chest, and upper thighs.

Turning for the cameras on the red carpet, Palmer showed that the dress’s sheer mesh cutouts extended across her back and upper hips, adding to its nearly-naked appeal. The One of Them Days actress—who posed for photos with Pete Davidson, Eddie Murphy, and Tim Story—mirrored her dress’s shimmering accents with a diamond tennis bracelet, ornate diamond hoop earrings, and a diamond pendant choker.

Palmer returned to her now-signature “ginger copper” red hair, wearing her auburn locks in an intricate sleek hairstyle with voluminous curled tendrils creating a halo around her face.

It’s not the first time that the Nope actress has turned to the annals of vintage sartorial history for the red carpet. While stepping out at the 2025 Oscars earlier this year, Palmer repurposed another retro naked dress—this time, the ab-baring Swarovski crystal-woven fishnet white gown that Christina Aguilera famously wore back in 2003.
