This season at Malaikaraiss, the focus is on cuts. It’s a small “best of” from designer Malaika Raiss, who is well-known in Berlin, especially for bridal and evening wear designed with comfort and ease—in all sizes and with all the extras. For example: a black velvet halter dress created a new sculptural silhouette with a removable nylon belt with a lacquer effect, while semi-transparent sequined dresses laid against the body like liquid shimmer. Playing with contrasting elements, like black against white, sequins and velvet, and body-skimming and voluminous silhouettes, has a metaphorical meaning for the designer. “For me, it’s about love in all its layers. Of course, it can be light and cheerful, but it can also be dark and deep.”
