“One of my absolute favorite tinted sunscreens is EltaMD UV Clear Tinted SPF 46, and I personally use it on a daily basis,” says Dr. Hannah Kopelman, Chief Medical Officer at DermOnDemand. “It’s a mineral-based sunscreen with a universal tint that blends easily into most skin tones, and what really sets it apart for me is how lightweight and breathable it feels. “My favorite tinted sunscreens are mineral-based sunscreens formulated with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide,” says Dr. Pearl Rimtepathip, board-certified dermatologist with MetroDerm in Atlanta. Eucerin Sun Tinted Sensitive Mineral Sunscreen SPF 35

No fewer than five dermatologists recommended this affordable sunscreen by the drugstore brand Eucerin. “The reason mineral sunscreens are often considered better than chemical sunscreens is because they are less irritating to the skin, more environmentally friendly, and gentle on sensitive skin,” according to Dr. Rimtepathip. For those reasons, both she and Dr. Justine Park, a board-certified dermatologist with Skin & Beauty Center in Los Angeles, Calif., wear Eucerin Sun Tinted Sensitive Mineral Sunscreen. 

Dr. Park loves the Eucerin Tinted Mineral sunscreen because it’s a “budget-friendly, reef safe, easy to find, head to toe, all ages welcome” option. “I love recommending this one when people ask me to recommend something over the counter that almost everyone can afford.”

Daybird 4-in-1 Serum Skin Tint

“As a busy dermatologist mom in her 40s, my favorite tinted sunscreen is Daybird 4-in-1 Serum Skin Tint,” says Dr. Meredith Price, a board-certified dermatologist with Grosse Pointe Dermatology in Grosse Pointe, Mich. “This is a tinted sunscreen that offers a robust SPF 50. Glowscreen is a great tinted sunscreen that’s easy to incorporate into your skincare routine, according to Dr. Anna Chacon, a board-certified dermatologist based in Miami, Fla. “Upon application, it will leave your skin glowing with a dewy, hydrated finish, without looking too shiny or oily. It’s fragrance-free, making it a good choice for those with sensitive skin, and it sets well underneath makeup,” she says. “I also love that it has vitamin E in its formulation to help nourish the skin during wear.”

La Roche-Posay Anthelios Tinted Mineral Light Fluid Sunscreen SPF 50

When asked for her go-to tinted sunscreen that doesn’t break the bank, Dr. Maya Thosani recommended a brand Real Simple editors also love. “La Roche-Posay Anthelios Tinted Mineral Sunscreen is my top recommendation,” said the board-certified dermatologist with Modern Dermatology in Scottsdale, Ariz. “It is lightweight, non-streaky in application, and has a universal tint.” Even better, she says, “La Roche-Posay also came out with a lighter weight SPF 40 version that comes in various shades for different skin colors as well.”
