“I travel a ton, for both work and play, and the one thing I never head to the airport without is my Everywhere Belt Bag from Lululemon. This one-liter bag has traveled with me for four months in South America and two months in Europe, holding all my essentials: phone, small wallet, keys, and lip balm. Anything more and you’ll probably overstuff it. I have this bag in three different colors, but I prefer the darker ones since I find that the pastels stain after just a few wears,” says Benshosan.
Best Oversized: Free People Quilted Carryall Bag
Free People does many things well, and their bags are some of their best values considering they’re well-made and relatively affordable. The Quilted Carryall Bag is meant to be slouchy, yet its fabric is super lightweight and has a nice satiny finish that ties the look together.
“I usually use it as a laptop bag—it fits my 15-inch MacBook Air with plenty of room for my notepad and essentials. I also love it as an overnight bag—it can fit a full outfit and a toiletry bag. I could also see it being used as a baby bag, a gym bag, or a beach bag. The strap is long enough to wear as a crossbody (for reference, I’m five four). It has a small, but deep, interior pocket that’s perfect for holding valuables. Note that this bag can fit a lot of stuff, and I mean a lot, so I love that it has a zipper across the top to keep everything safe inside,” says Benshosan.
Best for Vacation: Cuyana Mini Paloma Bag
This mini Cuyana bag is great for summer travel in Europe. It gives ultimate-beach-resort vibes thanks to the linen material and brown leather contrast.
“I recently got Cuyana’s new linen crossbody bag and decided to use it for the first time as my main bag on a trip with my husband to Paris. It’s now one of my favorite finds of the summer, and I can’t stop raving about it to friends. The tan linen and brown leather combo is definitely in style this year (I saw many similar bags on the shoulders of Parisians), and this version is a bit more affordable than splurging on true designer for a trendy piece. It also holds a small water bottle, which is one of my criteria for an ideal vacation bag. Très chic,” says Glamour senior editor Stephanie McNeal.
Glamour senior commerce editor Jenifer Calle is also a fan. “I recently brought this bag upstate with me and paired it with a bright yellow dress and it looked chic and polished. It’s small but functional and holds all my essentials (keys, wallet, phone, power bank, gum, lip products, and more), plus it’s small enough to pack anywhere you go,” says Calle.
Best for Everyday: Tory Burch Small Romy Crossbody
This Tory Burch crossbody bag comes recommended by Glamour commerce director Brie Schwartz. “Lightweight and perfectly sized to store the essentials, I love that it has an interior wallet that holds three cards (though, if you don’t place them perfectly, they will fall out into the bottom of the bag). It goes with everything, and I adore that the branding is subtle. One thing to note: The magnetic closure works beautifully, but you can’t overstuff it,” she says.
Best for Going Out: Liffner Buckled Suede Bucket Bag
This suede brown bag will take you from summer to fall. Glamour contributor Aemilia Madden owns it and loves to wear it daily. “I often find that crossbody bags are just a little too small to hold all of my summer essentials—sunglasses, book, and hat included. I like that this bag is a bit larger than other crossbody styles I’ve found without falling into big catchall tote territory. I also find that the top magnetic closure keeps anything from spilling out mid-commute, but since there’s only a small internal pocket, I do have to be careful not to let my phone get scratched by my keys as they bounce around the bottom of the bag,” she says.
Best for Moms: Clare V. Grade Fanny
When you’re juggling a stroller, holding little hands, or wrangling snacks, being hands-free is everything. And Clare V.’s leather fanny pack gives you quick access to essentials (keys, wipes, or a phone) without needing to dig through a giant diaper bag. The woven leather is stylish but also sturdy, so you can count on it holding up to everyday wear and tear. It comes in more than 15 different fun colors and combos, so you can match it to complement friend dates to playground outfits. Plus, the adjustable crossbody strap (which also happens to be detachable) extends from 19 inches to 39 inches for multiway wear.
Best Designer: Gucci GG Marmont Small Camera Bag
Several editors recommended Gucci crossbody bags and have owned a bag from the designer brand for years. We like this small camera bag in particular because even if you’re not carrying a point-and-shoot, it’s perfect for toting essentials and elevating casual daywear and night ’fits alike. It’s made in signature Gucci matelassé chevron leather and features its distinctive stitching. The monogram double G is at the front and back, and it has a zipper enclosure.
Best Splurge: Bottega Veneta Vanity Case Crossbody Bag
This Italian-made Bottega Veneta bag doubles as a top handle and a crossbody, so dare we say it might make you feel a little less guilty for splurging. Condé Nast VP content lead Dana Smith likes how versatile it is and how well it pairs with her petite frame. “You can take the crossbody strap off and use it with the handle when you want to be more fancy. Plus, the strap isn’t too long, which is nice if you’re on the shorter side. And I get a lot of compliments on it, which is always nice!”
