- Momoa’s verdict? “I hate it!” he exclaimed.
Jason Momoa shaved his signature beard for the first time in six years—and he’s not super enthused about it.
While the actor changed his look for a good cause—to send an important message about single-use plastic—after doing the deed and catching a glimpse of his bare face, he said, “I hate it!”
It all went down on July 30, when Momoa shared a video on Instagram of him taking an electric razor to his signature facial hair. “Haven’t shaved in six years, and here we are again,” he captioned the post.
He also spoke about his sustainable water company, Mananalu, and how it was founded to help eliminate single-use plastic. “We don’t need it,” Momoa said.
“This is the kickoff,” he added while shaving his beard. “I want to, like, tell you guys and inform people that Mananalu, powered by Boomerang, is out there trying to make change.”
As he looked at his half-shaved face, he doubled in laughter and said, “Oh man.” This isn’t the first time Momoa has shaved his beard for a good cause—he also did so in 2019, to coincide with the launch of Mananalu.
“I’m shaving this beast off—it’s time to make a change,” he said at the time, noting that it was the first time he had shaved since 2012. “Looks pretty good!” he said six years ago.

For what it’s worth, even though Momoa might not be as into his bare face in 2025 as he was in 2019, his girlfriend Adria Arjona left a few heart emojis on the post, signaling her approval.
“She makes him happy,” a source told People of Arjona, who Momoa met while co-starring in the Netflix film Sweet Girl. “She’s very adventurous and down-to-earth, as well. They love the outdoors and enjoy motorcycle rides.”

Arjona and Momoa began dating after Momoa’s split from ex-wife Lisa Bonet, with whom he shares daughter Lola, 18, and son Nakoa-Wolf, 16. Bonet and Momoa broke up in January 2022 and filed for divorce in January 2024.
Of Arjona—whom Momoa began dating about five months after he and Bonet finalized their divorce—“He cares about her,” the insider said. “She’s good to him—and a lovely and genuine person and real like he is. She has a good sense of humor and is easy to be with. They relate to each other.”
Of his kids—who joined Arjona and Momoa on the red carpet July 18 at the Hawaii premiere of his upcoming Apple TV+ show Chief of War—Momoa previously told People, “I spent a lot of time with them when they were younger, which is super important. Then they traveled with me quite a bit. But now, going into high school, they’ve got their friends and stuff. They still like me, which is good. I’m probably losing cool factor daily.”

Momoa’s hair transformation is also for his upcoming role in Dune: Part Three, Variety reported. “Only for you, Denis,” Momoa said begrudgingly, referring to director Denis Villeneuve.
Momoa’s son Nakoa-Wolf will also appear in the forthcoming film, and Momoa told Extra earlier this month that “A rude awakening is what he’s in for.”
“He’s into the workforce for the first time,” he continued. “It’s going to be good. He did it on his own. I don’t want to help him, and he’s done it all on his own, and good for him.” He added, “You want your children to be better than you, and I really, actually believe he is. I couldn’t do what he’s doing at this age. There’s no way I could sit in a room with Denis Villeneuve and hold my own. I was on Baywatch at 19. He’s 16 and holding s— down with Denis Villeneuve.”
