In the past three days, there have been two bus crashes in Texas’ Cleveland Independent School District.
On Wednesday, Aug 13, a school bus carrying 58 elementary school children ended up on its side after rolling over near the intersection of FM 1010 and County Road 347 just after 7 a.m., KHOU 11 and KTRK reported.
While it is unclear what led to the crash, photos captured by TNT News Nuevo Laredo show various small children with their parents, some crying, and some in stretchers.

Cleveland ISD said in an online statement that “all students were immediately and safely removed from the bus and provided medical attention.”
Although medical personnel were on site, the district said that the students were “evaluated at a local hospital out of an abundance of caution.” Parents were notified directly about the incident.
“The district will be conducting a full investigation into the matter,” said the district. “Student safety is always our highest priority, and we are grateful for the swift response of our transportation staff and emergency responders.”

Parent Marisol Castillo told KHOU 11 that the incident made her wonder if it’s safe for her kids to ride the bus to school.
“I was coming through, heading back home, and we saw the whole chaos,” she said, noting that she had just registered her kids with the district that morning.
“It was concerning because I put them as bus riders, and now I’m thinking about it,” she said.
The crash comes after another Cleveland ISD school bus carrying students from Cleveland High School and Cleveland Ninth Grade Center “came to rest on its side in a ditch” on FM 1010 on Monday, Aug. 11, according to an online statement from the district.

Monday’s crash occurred about two miles from the scene of Wednesday’s crash, per KHOU 11.
District spokesperson Tonya Clark told the Houston Chronicle that around 36 of the 59 students on the bus had minor injuries, such as bumps or bruises. None of them had any visibly “deep, penetrating cuts or wounds.”
They were sent to local hospitals for evaluation and treatment.

According to the school district’s statement, the bus driver was also evaluated by medical personnel. In a separate statement on Wednesday night, Cleveland ISD said it has “been a difficult week.”
“We experienced two separate bus accidents, and while we are thankful there were no life-threatening injuries, some of our students required additional medical care. Our hearts are with each student, their families, and our transportation team,” the statement said.
