KJ Smith and Skyh Black have found their dream home before welcoming their first child.
The couple have relocated from Los Angeles to Atlanta, where they just purchased an expansive 10,400 sq. ft. property in the Stone Mountain area, PEOPLE can exclusive reveal.
“We always toyed with the idea of moving back to the South, just to be closer to our families,” Black tells PEOPLE. “So, when she got pregnant, we said, ‘Okay, look, we’re going to need help.’ And it was very important for our kids to grow up around family, because everybody’s on the East Coast. We were the only ones on the West Coast. So, that was our biggest decision.”

Smith grew up in Tallahassee, Fla., and Black is from Miami. Both still have relatives in Florida, including Smith’s mom, who’s been making weekly visits during her pregnancy.
The All the Queen’s Men actor notes that they’ve both been working in Atlanta on and off for the past five years, which made the Georgia capital an obvious choice to put down roots.
The pair began house hunting in October 2024, while renting a home in the area.

“We were obsessing about, ‘Okay, how do we find the home of our dreams,’” Smith says, while Black adds, “Zillow was our Instagram. Redfin was our TikTok.”
While some properties left them disappointed when they saw them in person, their new home was just the opposite.
“In this case, we were invigorated,” the Sistas star says. “We were surprised, we were excited. It was beautiful. It felt right. It felt perfect.

“There was so much land,” Black says, noting that having the opportunity to run around and play outside as kids was something they wanted to be possible for their own family.
The five-bedroom, seven-bathroom home, built in 1976, is also equipped with an indoor pool (Smith’s favorite part of the house), a theater, bar and gym.
While some young families choose to have a starter house, the couple says they’re here to stay.

“I want this home to possibly be a forever home,” Black says.
“That’s why we went with an older home, because they’re built to last, and they have really great bones, and then we can make it our own,” Smith adds.
Black, who loves to hike, says that’s another reason he’s excited for Stone Mountain’s proximity to the activity.

“People kept telling me, ‘You got to go to the mountains,’” he says. “It’s literally on the next couple of streets over, the actual hiking trail. So, when I come out, and I see the big beautiful mountain, I’m like, ‘Ahh.’ It does give me my little peace, like my alone time.”
The couple’s move-in date aligns with Smith’s due date in September, and they’re planing for a home birth in the new abode.
“I can’t wait to tell my baby girl, ‘I had you in this house,’” says Smith, who revealed the baby’s sex on the red carpet at the 2025 BET Awards in June.

In the meantime, they’re about to start renovations. Smith says her first order of business is transforming the home’s huge, untouched attic into their primary closet.
“It’s going to have a vanity, a glam area,” she says. “It’s going to have everything, a sitting area, because I get tired trying on clothes. I need to sit down sometimes.”
Their next project to tackle is extending the exterior courtyard to “make a beautiful outdoor space” for parties and events and adding an outdoor pool, she notes.
Black says another priority is installing an elevator in the house to make it accessible for both of their grandmothers, who use walkers.

“They do not travel to us without each other,” he says. “They talk on the phone every weekend. So, we wanted to make it possible for them to be able to see the entire house, or go through the movie theater room if they want, some of the guest bedrooms on the second floor.”
The couple, who tied the knot in 2023, are already thinking about what special occasions will be like in their new surroundings.
“Christmas is my favorite holiday, so I can’t wait,” Black says. “I want to have Easter egg hunts with my kids. I want to have all the Labor Day parties. I’m that guy. I grew up like that.”
“I want a home where all of our family can come, where we can host, where we can just create the memories and hang them up,” he adds. “And when my kids get older, you know how you go to your grandma’s house, and you look at all the pictures and all of the things? That’s what I wanted for this.”
