While a guest on the “New Heights” podcast, Taylor Swift shared an update on both her mom and dad after they underwent major surgeries this summer.
Reports confirmed in July that Scott Swift underwent heart surgery. Taylor confirmed on the podcast that her dad had “a quintuple bypass surgery.”
“That’s a really intense surgery, so it all happened really quick,” Taylor explained. “He went in. I know he would want me to say this, because he really, like he learned a lot through this process.”
“He’s had a healthy perfect EKG every year that he’s gone in to get his physicals,” she continued. “But what found his five hard blockages in his heart was a resting stress test. So he’s been telling all his friends, you need to get the stress test, because that’s what’s actually preventative.”

Taylor said that doctors acted quickly after finding the five blockages in his heart. “They’re like, ‘We got to do this like, tomorrow. Yeah, you shouldn’t, like, we don’t know how you walked in here, dude. This is crazy.’”
Taylor said before going in for surgery, Scott was a typical dad letting his kids and his family know that they don’t have to travel to be with him for his heart surgery, but that they didn’t listen to him.
“It was very parent child reversal in a lot of ways,” Taylor joked, commenting on taking care of her dad during his recovery.
She also revealed that her mom, Andrea Swift, “got a new knee. She’s doing great.”
“This was just like the summer of my parental upgrades,” Taylor said, “like we’re just upgrading the parents, making sure that they live to be at least 186 years old. Because there are two of my best friends, and I just adore them.”
Taylor called the summer with her family “actually one of the most special things that’s ever happened to me, like spending all that time with them this summer and getting to like you have those long talks that you don’t have when it’s like a small, concentrated period of time.”
The singer-songwriter also noted that it was during this time with her family that she learned her latest obsession, making sourdough bread.
With The Eras Tour in the past, Taylor said she’s rediscovering hobbies which includes sewing kids purses for Travis Kelce’s four nieces, Jason Kelce’s daughters, and baking.
“I’d say all my hobbies could be categorized as like hobbies you could have had in the 1700s, you know,” Taylor shared.
“I love to cook. I have a different baking obsession every six months,” she continued. “We’re very deep in a sourdough obsession.”
Travis called himself the “luckiest man in the world” to be able to reap the rewards of Taylor’s cooking and baking obsessions. “The sourdough has taken over my life in a huge way. I’m really talking about bread 60% of the time.”
“There’s a blueberry lemon, there’s cinnamon swirl, cinnamon raisin. And this one I’ve been workshopping for the girls because they love everything rainbow. Funfetti sourdough,” Taylor explained, to which Jason admitted his daughters will have their minds blown.
