- Clea Shearer revealed she underwent emergency surgery due to a hematoma following complications from her breast reconstruction
- She is currently in need of a blood transfusion
- The Home Edit star admitted that she cried openly for the first time because her body “seems to reject everything we attempt”
Clea Shearer is opening up about a new challenge amid her breast cancer journey.
On Friday, Aug. 15, the professional organizer and star of Get Organized with The Home Edit — who was declared cancer-free in 2022 — posted a series of photos from the hospital, revealing that she’s dealing with more complications amid her recovery journey.
The 43-year-old said she was rushed to the hospital and underwent emergency surgery due to a hematoma, a closed wound where blood collects inside the body, near the incision from her breast reconstruction.
“I was losing a lot of blood in one drain and none in the other,” she began. “The incision on my back had a collection of fluids, and the incision on my breast was bleeding nonstop.”
Shearer revealed that she’s back at “square one,” as she and her doctors are unsure “when I’ll be healed enough to receive an implant again, or even healed enough to expand the expander. As I’m writing this, one of the doctors let me know my hemoglobin was very low because of all the blood loss, and now I need an immediate blood transfusion.”
She continued, “I have never openly cried through my first 11 surgeries, but this one did me in.”

“I hope as the shock and pain lift, my resilience will return and I’ll go back to crushing these procedures like I always do,” she added. “I’ll get to the other side eventually, just not right now which I had desperately hoped.”
Shearer was first diagnosed with stage 2 invasive mammary carcinoma, an aggressive form of breast cancer, in March 2022. She endured months of chemotherapy and radiation and six surgeries, including a double mastectomy and removal of her ovaries.
The Netflix star was declared cancer-free in November 2022 and underwent breast reconstruction surgery two years later. In November 2024, she celebrated what she believed was her seventh and final surgery.

However, in January 2025, she learned that the wound at her incision site had opened all the way to her breast implant, and her surgeon needed to open it up to make sure it wasn’t infected.
Three months later, Shearer shared her disappointment as she continued to face health challenges.
“From the lack of skin I retained following necrosis, to the severe damage radiation caused to my breast and surrounding areas (both inside and out), I have fought and fought and fought to salvage what I could over the course of 8 surgeries,” she wrote on Instagram. “And today I lost the war.”
“I had no choice but to completely remove my right implant which means I’m right back to a post mastectomy state. I am flat on one side and will need a prosthetic,” she said.
On Aug. 12, Shearer said she completed her 11th surgery.
