On Monday, Aug. 18, the 56-year-old Academy Award nominee took to social media to reveal that her son, Sasha Schreiber, whom she shares with ex Liev Schreiber, was headed to college.
In a post on her Instagram Stories, Watts shared a photo of herself posing with Sasha, 18, and all of his bags. In the picture, she wore a tan jacket and light jeans while clinging to her son, who is soon to start his freshman year at the University of Southern California.

Watts rested her forehead on Sasha’s shoulder as he posed for the camera, dressed in jeans and a white T-shirt. He had one arm wrapped around his mom in a hug.
“Already [bawling],” Watts wrote over the photo, adding several crying emojis and tagging Sasha.
In a second photo, Watts captured her daughter, Kai, 16, hugging her big brother before saying goodbye.
Schreiber also took to Instagram to celebrate his son’s exciting new life journey.
“Starting to feel the pull. Gonna miss my ride or die. Having said that, USC is gonna get one of the deepest, kindest, bravest and most beautiful boys I have ever known,” Schreiber captioned a photo of himself standing next to Sasha.
In the photo, the new college student wore a dark plaid button-up shirt, while the actor opted for a beige shirt with green pants.

Watts and Schreiber were a Hollywood couple for 11 years before they split in 2016. They have both remarried, with the actress marrying Billy Crudup and Schreiber marrying Taylor Neisen.
Despite their split, the pair have maintained a positive relationship for their children.
They reunited to celebrate Sasha’s prom in May. The following month, they were back together again for their son’s graduation. In July, they marked yet another landmark moment for their son as Sasha turned 18.
“Happy birthday sweet, darling @sashapeteschreiber 18 today-and ready for the world! Cannot believe it.😊😭,” Watts wrote in a post on Instagram. “Have so loved watching you grow into the kindest, most wonderful young man. Thank you for making me a first time mum. ♥️.”
In another post on her Instagram Stories, she wrote, “He’s 18! Happy birthday again.”

After going their separate ways, Watts and Schreiber worked out a way to handle their split, saying that they carved their own path.
“We’re doing things very differently. I’m pretty proud of us, corny as that may sound,” she told Net-a-Porter in August 2019. “We’ve made it our absolute priority to be good and kind to each other and we’re absolutely committed to that.”
Sasha, who walked his mom down the aisle when she got married in 2024, hasn’t yet commented on his college journey.

One of his most recent Instagram posts is from February, when he joined his parents at the 2025 Critics Choice Awards.
While there, he got to see Schreiber pick up an award for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television for his acclaimed performance in The Perfect Couple. Watts was also nominated at the ceremony.
“So proud of my pops for this great accomplishment! (and mom for trying),” he captioned his post, which included red carpet pictures and footage from inside the event.
