Millie Bobby Brown and Jake Bongiovi have welcomed their first child.
The Stranger Things star announced the surprise news on Instagram Thursday morning by posting, “This summer, we welcomed our sweet baby girl through adoption. We are beyond excited to embark on this beautiful next chapter of parenthood in both peace and privacy.”
The young couple — Brown is 21 while Bongiovi is 23 — secretly wed in May 2024, after having been together since 2021. (Brown’s Stranger Things co-star Matthew Modine officiated the wedding.) In an interview on the Smartless podcast, Brown talked about wanting to have a family and how her own parents started young as well. Similarly, Bongiovi’s parents, iconic rocker Jon Bon Jovi and wife Dorothea Hurley, were high school sweethearts who married young.
“My mom actually had her first child at 21, and my dad was 19,” she explained while promoting her Netflix film Electric State. “It’s been my thing since before I met Jake. Since I was a baby, I told my mom, like, baby dolls. I wanted to be a mom just like the way my mom was to me.”
She continued: “My thing was, I really want a family. I really want a big family. I’m one of four. He’s one of four. It is definitely in our future. But, for me, I don’t see having your own child as really any different as in adopting.”
In a cover story for Vanity Fair, Brown said that she and her husband talked through parenthood before tying the knot. “We talked about our political views, what kind of family we want to build, the kind of home we want to live in, the kind of relationship we’re looking for, the kind of careers we want. It’s such an important decision, and we wanted to make sure we were making the right one. I knew I was. It always felt right with him.”
Along with adjusting to life with a new baby, Brown has a busy fall lined up. She’ll next star in the final season of Netflix’s Stranger Things, which debuts in two parts, on Nov. 26 and Dec. 25. During the summer, she wrapped the streamer’s Enola Holmes 3 and signed on to star opposite Netflix’s Just Picture It.
