The Muppets, and one human performer, are coming to Broadway.
The illusionist Rob Lake is staging a holiday show, Rob Lake Magic with Special Guests The Muppets at the Broadhurst Theatre starting Oct. 28. The show is scheduled to open Nov. 6 and run through Jan. 18.
Kermit the Frog is promised to appear on stage, alongside “some of his friends from The Muppets” for the show. This would be the first time The Muppets have appeared on Broadway – though they do attempt to stage their own Broadway show in the 1984 film, The Muppets Take Manhattan. There was also previously a Sesame Street musical that ran Off-Broadway in 2023.
“I’ve been performing magic my entire life, and it has always been my greatest dream to perform my show on Broadway.,” Lake said. “Like so many people around the world, I grew up with The Muppets. To work with them and create new illusions for them to appear in my show has been the most rewarding and surprisingly familiar moment. It’s like I have known them my entire life,” Lake said in the press release.
Lake drew notice after a viral appearance on America’s Got Talent in 2018. He has sine brought his act across the U.S. and around the world. He also served as creative consultant and illusion designer for Adele’s Las Vegas residency, and helped design illusions for Death Becomes Her on Broadway. In 2008, Lake was the youngest magician in history to win the Merlin Award as International Stage Magician of the Year. He also serves as a magic consultant and illusion designer for TV series, films, Walt Disney Imagineering, Broadway shows, PR stunts and more.
The show is produced by Rob Lake Productions, Joe Quenqua, and Glass Half Full Productions. Bethany Pettigrew and Kevin Zak will serve as creative consultant and script consultant to the production, respectively. Wagner Johnson Productions will serve as Executive Producers.
