A woman says her boyfriend’s hairstylist mom cut her hair while she was asleep on the couch — without asking or warning her first.
In a post shared to Reddit, the anonymous 25-year-old writes that she has “waist-length curly hair” that she has been growing out for eight years.
Recently, she and her boyfriend went to visit his parents for the weekend.
“His mom is a retired hairstylist and has always made comments about how I ‘would look more professional’ with shorter hair,” she writes.

During their stay, the poster “fell asleep on the couch while everyone was watching TV.”
“I woke up to find she had SNIPPED a chunk of my hair and was ‘evening it out,'” she recalls. “She claimed she was ‘just cleaning up the ends’ and that ‘it’s only hair, it’ll grow back.’ ”

“I was so shocked I started crying. My boyfriend told me to ‘calm down’ because ‘she meant well.’ I ended up locking myself in the guest room for hours,” she adds. “Now she’s calling me ungrateful, and my boyfriend thinks I’m blowing it out of proportion. But I feel violated.”
Other Reddit users chimed in, noting that “cutting her hair while she’s ASLEEP isn’t ‘meaning well,’ it’s a massive violation.”
“I feel like her even telling you what she thought you should do with your hair was overstepping if you didn’t ask for input,” another added. “Cutting your HAIR while you slept is 100% over the line, a violation in every way, and a break of trust that I’m not sure can be restored.”
Others suggested reporting the woman, with one writing, “[Call the] police, and state licensing agency if she’s an actual licensed hairdresser. File a complaint and get her license pulled.”
