Tia Mowry is getting candid about her parenting opinions.
The 47-year-old actress and author spoke to Parade in an interview published Friday (August 22). In the interview, the mother of two shared why she doesn’t think that it’s a parent’s “job” to keep their kids happy.
Tia said that the way she was raised has influenced her parenting opinions when it comes to raising her own family.

“I don’t think it is your job to make your kids happy,” Tia told the publication in the interview. The actress went on to explain that she thinks parents should be focused on more important parts of raising their children instead of always letting kids have their way.
“I think that it is your job to keep your kids safe, nurture them, guide them, but they have to learn on their own how to make themselves happy, because we don’t want to create co-dependency,” Tia added.
According to Tia, growing up in a household where they were taught to always listen to their parents. Instead of following in her parents’ footsteps, Tia said she wanted to make sure that she raised her kids with a balance and healthy boundaries.
“I think growing up, it was definitely a cultural thing where it’s like, ‘My house, my rules.’ I didn’t want to do that with my children. I wanted my children to never be afraid to express themselves,” Tia said.
