It kicks into high gear August 29, with the start of the annual Telluride Film Festival—an intimate event in the Colorado mountains that traditionally doesn’t even reveal its lineup until the very last minute. Then comes the Toronto International Film Festival, or TIFF, on September 4, a venerable launchpad for eventual Academy Award winners.
