Lady Gaga is returning to the MTV VMAs.
Gaga has officially joined the list of 2025 VMAs performers set to appear at this year’s awards ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 7. Both MTV and the VMAs announced the exciting news on social media Saturday.
“There will be magic in the air at the 2025 #VMAs because @LADYGAGA IS PERFORMING!” the VMAs shared on Instagram. “You won’t want to miss her return.”
Mother Monster joins an already announced slate of performers including Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Jelly Roll, Post Malone and Tate McRae. Sombr, Alex Warren and J Balvin featuring DJ Snake will also hit the VMAs stage.
This year will mark Gaga’s long-awaited return to the awards ceremony. Her last VMAs appearance was five years ago in 2020, where she performed “Rain On Me” alongside Ariana Grande.
The “Abracadabra” singer is the leading nominee at the VMAs this year, with 12 nods in total. Gaga is nominated in top categories including for video of the year (for “Die With a Smile”), artist of the year and album of the year for Mayhem. Following closely behind her is Bruno Mars with 11 noms and Kendrick Lamar with 10.
Gaga already has 18 VMAs, though her most iconic moments tied to the MTV-hosted awards ceremony point back to her debut 2009 performance of “Papparazzi” and when she wore a dress made out of raw meat to the show in 2010.
At this year’s ceremony, Mariah Carey will be honored with the Video Vanguard Award, which will also see her put on a performance of her greatest hits. LL Cool J will host.
The 2025 MTV VMAs will air on CBS for the first time ever while also simulcasting on MTV and streaming on Paramount+ (for subscribers to the service’s premium plan).
