LEGO’s newest Star Wars set might just blast a hole through your wallet.
After months of rumors among fans, the Danish toy company finally unveiled the most expensive set it has ever made, the new Death Star – Ultimate Collector Series set, on Thursday, Sept. 4.
The set will retail for $999.99. It is also the largest Star Wars LEGO set to date, with 9,023 pieces and including 38 mini figures. Its dimensions are over 20.6 in. (52.3 cm) high, 18.9 in. (48.0 cm) wide and 15.1 in. (38.3 cm) deep.
The set features a circular slice of the Death Star, with rooms recreating scenes from A New Hope and Return of the Jedi. These rooms include the trash compactor, Princess Leia’s prison cell and the tractor beam control room from A New Hope, and Emperor Palpatine’s throne room as seen in Return of the Jedi.

There’s also a hangar bay with enough room to store the included Imperial Shuttle and Darth Vader’s meditation chamber, similar to the one seen aboard his Star Destroyer in The Empire Strikes Back. The set also has a large Superlaser dish and includes a display stand for figures of Galen Erso and Director Krennic from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
The collection of figures includes Darth Vader, Obi-Wan Kenobi, multiple Luke Skywalker and Han Solo figures, Princess Leia and multiple Stormtroopers. A hot tub Stormtrooper, a reference from the LEGO Star Wars video games, rounds out the set’s features.
The new set will go up for sale in LEGO Stores on Oct. 4, but LEGO Insiders can order at the company’s site on Oct. 1. Fans will also get a free gift with purchase during the first week (while supplies last). The gift set is a small TIE Fighter with a hangar rack that fits into the main set.

This isn’t the first Death Star set LEGO has made. In 2008 and 2016, the company released sets that were full spheres. Like the new set, they included rooms representing iconic scenes from A New Hope and Return of the Jedi. In 2005, LEGO made a fully covered, spherical Death Star II from Return of the Jedi.
LEGO has been making more expensive and more intricate Star Wars sets for years. The 2017 Ultimate Collector Series Millennium Falcon has 7,541 minifigures and is still available at $849.99. The Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser, released in 2023, is $649.99.
The title of the largest LEGO set ever is held by LEGO Art World Map, which was available from 2021 to 2023 and had 11,695 pieces. The largest LEGO set still available is the Eiffel Tower, which has 10,001 pieces.
