Warning: Spoilers ahead for Beauty in Black!
Beauty in Black is back with even more drama for season 2.
The Netflix series from Tyler Perry follows an exotic dancer named Kimmie (Taylor Polidore Williams), whose life becomes intertwined with the Bellarie family and their Beauty in Black haircare company.
The first season ended on a shocking note: Kimmie accepted Horace’s (Ricco Ross) marriage proposal, making her the new head of the family business. Now, Beauty in Black continues with season 2, part 1, comprised of eight episodes, which premiered on Sept. 11 on Netflix.
At the end of season 2, part 1, Kimmie asserts her dominance as the company’s chief operating officer, fighting the other Bellarie family members along the way. In addition to office politics, there is plenty of drama, deception and death, as fans have come to expect from Perry’s projects.
So how did Beauty in Black season 2, part 1 end? Here’s where the series left Kimmie and the Bellarie family, and their struggle for control of the family company.
What happens at the end of Beauty in Black season 2, part 1?

Kimmie is running the show at Beauty in Black, but while she is trying to hold onto her professional power, mayhem reigns back home.
Though most of the action takes place at the company offices, the episode opens with the aftermath of Kimmie’s best friend, Rain (Amber Reign Smith), accidentally pushing Glen (Ace Small) — the son of Jules (Charles Malik Whitfield), the Bellarie family’s head of security — out a window after she discovered him having sex with Kimmie’s younger sister, Sylvie (Bailey Tippen).
After recapping her day at the office to Horace, who is receiving medical treatments in Italy, Kimmie comes home to find Rain and Glen barely alive. Officer Alex (Bryan Tanaka), who has been protecting Kimmie, tells her he will take care of it.
Meanwhile, the episode concludes with Horace’s son, Charles (Steven G. Norfleet), receiving some unwanted guests when his house is invaded by three masked men proclaiming to be police, who hold him at gunpoint.
“It wouldn’t be Beauty in Black without a jaw-dropping cliffhanger or two,” Perry told Tudum. “All I can say is: expect the unexpected — the second season is full of twists that will keep you guessing until the very end. Get ready!”
Is Kimmie still in charge of the Beauty in Black haircare company?

Yes, Kimmie is still the chief operating officer at Beauty in Black at the end of season 2, part 1.
In the eighth episode, “Hold the Pleasantries,” the Bellarie family hosts a meeting at the office to discuss the state of the company. After tense standoffs with Mallory (Crystle Stewart) and Horace’s ex-wife, Olivia (Debbi Morgan), Kimmie enters the meeting and promptly takes it over, surprising the family with her mind for numbers.
Kimmie presents a plan for the company to be “completely debt-free in five years,” proving to her new co-workers that she is smarter and more powerful than they initially thought.
“I had them shook,” she later tells Horace on the phone, recapping the meeting.
What happens to Mallory?

In the season 2, part 1 finale, Mallory, who ran the Beauty in Black company before Kimmie entered the picture, continues to act like she’s still in charge.
Mallory attempts to lead the Bellarie family meeting, but is pushed aside when Kimmie takes control and reveals her plan for the company. The former boss might be losing power, but she won’t surrender without a fight.
“Mallory’s going to dig in harder than ever to protect her power, because she’s not the type to hand over the throne,” Stewart explained to Tudum. “Let’s just say the power shifts are bigger, the betrayals cut deeper, and Mallory has a few tricks no one sees coming.”
“If you think she’s already done her worst, you’re not ready,” she teased.
Are Charles and Varney still in a secret romantic relationship?

Charles had been in a secret relationship with Varney (Terrell Carter), a lawyer for the Bellaries, but when Charles’ brother, Roy (Julian Horton), discovers their affair, he tells the rest of the family.
At the end of the tense meeting at the Beauty in Black offices, Charles and Varney have a moment alone, where it appears their relationship is over.
Later in the episode, Varney goes back to Charles’, only to find him dismembering the bodies of the men whom he shot during an attempted robbery in episode 6, “The Enemy of My Enemy.”
The episode concludes with Charles and Varney being held at gunpoint by masked men who have broken into the house, proclaiming to be police.
Does Angel die?
Quantrell Colbert/Netflix
No, Angel (Xavier Smalls) doesn’t die; he is still alive at the end of Beauty in Black season 2, part 1.
Earlier in the season, Horace unintentionally authorized the killing of Angel. He was shot at while at a bus stop, but he survived by playing dead.
Angel last appears in episode 8, when he’s in the middle of a shopping spree and receives a call from Rain asking for his help.
