Princess Amalia of the Netherlands is taking more and more steps towards her official royal career. This afternoon the country’s future queen met with the mayor of Amsterdam, Femke Halsema, at the city hall. She had lunch with the Halsema and various representatives from the city’s business, cultural, social, and sporting scenes. This solo engagement was an opportunity to reinforce Amalia’s growing independence—and establish her style.
The princess wore a lacy nude-colored blouse with a V-neckline and paired it dark palazzo pants. She demonstrated a contrast between romantic and executive aesthetics that is is an excellent choice for these business appointments. But the main draw was one accessory: an attention-grabbing Chanel XXL bag in burgundy. It was likely borrowed from her mother, Queen Maxima, who has a large collection of Chanel handbags. Slingback heels and a gold watch from Cartier completed the look, confirming that Amalia and her mother share a sense of style.
In addition to her mother, Amalia has another great role model at home: her father, King Willem, who is gradually training for her future role as queen. Today, she is following in his footsteps; this same Amsterdam meeting was held when William was 21 years old, when he was still Prince of Orange. The purpose of this lunch is to learn more about the needs of the city, its development plans and its inhabitants.
Last July, the princess graduated with a degree in Politics, Psychology, Law and Economics (PPLE), and event she celebrated with her entire family. Now, the future queen is currently pursuing a postgraduate course in Dutch law, balancing it with a Dutch Ministry of Defense training program for university students that combines academic education with professional experience and military training.
