Fall layering is typically a street style look, but leave it to Jennifer Lawrence to bring it to the red carpet. At the Rome Film Festival, where she attended a screening of her new film Die, My Love, the Oscar winner wore the most daring and unexpected combination of garments we’ve seen on the star in a minute, and we’re really enjoying the playfulness.
Instead of a traditional gown or suit, Lawrence opted a tiered, bubble-hem skirt paired with a faux-slouchy (but actually tailored) sweater, all by Dior. At first glance, the two pieces don’t look like they’d be part of the same outfit. The skirt is feminine, light, fancy, fashion-y; the top is versatile and could be worn in a business setting or out to dinner.
But the top has the same neckline as a ballgown and the same cuffs as a tuxedo. It’s actually rather formal. A black ribbon on the skirt matches the black detailing on the top and the black shoes, tying the outfit together. Is it the most cohesive look? Up to you, but we think Lawrence pulls it off.
