British sci-fi comedy feature Time Travel Is Dangerous is set to slide into theaters.
Level 33 Entertainment has acquired distribution rights in the U.S. and Canada for director Chris Reading’s mockumentary film and will release it in select theaters and via VOD on Nov. 21, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned. Real-life best friends and vintage shop owners Ruth Syratt and Megan Stevenson star in the film that features Stephen Fry as the narrator.
Johnny Vegas (Benidorm), Sophie Thompson (Four Weddings and a Funeral), Mark Heap (Spaced), Jane Horrocks (Little Voice) and Tom Lenk (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) round out the comedy’s cast.
Time Travel Is Dangerous centers on Ruth and Megan, who happen upon a time machine and realize that it will help them to acquire items from the past for their vintage shop.
Reading helmed the movie from a script he co-wrote with Anna-Elizabeth Shakespeare and Hillary Shakespeare. All three serve as producers.
Time Travel Is Dangerous premiered at the 2024 Austin Film Festival and had a theatrical run earlier this year in the U.K.
“We’re really excited to bring our bonkers British sense of humor to a wide American audience,” the film’s creative team says in a statement. “We’ve been to a lot of U.S. festivals where we’ve actually found the audiences to laugh the hardest. I think it particularly appeals to people who are into British comedy and sci-fi like This Is Spinal Tap, The Office, Doctor Who and Terry Gilliam.”
Adds Level 33 president and CEO Andreas Olavarria, “We can’t wait for audiences everywhere to see this charming and funny film from a wonderfully talented filmmaking team.”
