If you haven’t watched the Nobody Wants This finale from season 2, consider this your spoiler warning now (and read this piece instead). If you have, then please proceed, because we have a lot to get to from the episode titled “When Noah met Joanne.”
Morgan and Dr. Andy have their engagement party at the Dolby Family Terrace, which is part of the newish Academy Museum in Los Angeles. Just like with the Purim episode, several storylines collide, resulting in broken hearts, new hopes, and lots of unanswered questions.
It is at this engagement party that Morgan finally comes to the realization (with the help of her mother) that she shouldn’t be getting married to her therapist, Dr. Andy. Joanne says she should if she doesn’t mind divorce being her brand, but I’m glad Morgan does the right thing and calls it off.
Meanwhile, Joanne wants to move in with Noah now that she’s being evicted from her place, but Noah needs more time. When Noah asks Sasha how he and Esther are doing, he says things have been going well the last few days. However, he admits he was getting worried he and Esther were going to be one of those couples where one person wakes up 20 years in and hates the other person—and he doesn’t want that to happen.
But when he asks Noah if he ever thinks it shouldn’t be this hard, Noah is quizzical, wondering if that means he should call things off with Joanne.
Then, over melancholy music, Noah finds Joanne and tells her there’s so many things going in their favor. They both agree they find the best in each other—called “Ayin tovah”—but then he says, “There are a hundred different ways I could convince you to be with me, but I’m not going to do that. Nothing good happens when it’s forced. I don’t wanna be the person who’s asking you to be someone different. Can’t start our life that way. You would wake up in 20 years and hate me.” When she asks for clarity, he says he’s all out of ideas and just accepting the truth of their situation. He loves her, but says, “We can’t keep doing this. It’s too hard,” and heads out. She’s crushed.
