As one of the stars of Rachel Sennott’s new HBO friend-group comedy I Love LA, True Whitaker gets to play a dialed-up version of herself—an L.A. kid with a famous dad. But despite her Hollywood roots, the 27-year-old budding performer has decided to make New York home. Just ask her.

Where do you get your coffee?
I love an iced blueberry latte from Joe & the Juice.
What’s your favorite New York movie?
Uptown Girls or The Secret Life of Pets. Orrrr Little Manhattan when I’m missing Josh.
What’s your favorite building in New York?
My East Village apartment.
Have you ever cried on the subway?
Absolutely, a random playlist shuffle has definitely sent me over the edge and disrupted my aura farming.
What’s the longest line you’ve ever waited in?
What’s a line?

Top and Pants Dior. Necklaces Stylist’s Own.
Where do you go when you want to disappear?
Uptown.
Who’s the most famous person you’ve seen on the street?
Rihanna!
Are you a West Village girl?
Nope! East Village girly. Maybe after I book a couple more movies I can ball out in the West Village. Manifest!
Has New York ever broken your heart?
Absolutely. But to quote Lana, “It’s just a state of mind, it turns out everywhere you go, you take yourself, that’s not a lie.” Don’t want to blame the city because New York has also mended my heart.
Where do you go to feel like a tourist?
SoHo shopping.

T-shirt, Pants, and Belt Coach.
What makes New York feel like home?
New York feels like home because my dad and sister are living here, too.
What’s the toughest reservation you’ve gotten?
I’ve been lowkey slaying reservations at Chez Margaux, this sexy members-only club in the city. My friend tried to call for a dinner reservation for himself and when he arrived, they had it under my name. So that made me feel pretty cool and sexy since I still need to sign up to be an official member. Shout-out to Kyle Hotchkiss.
Who was the last person you bumped into?
Kader Sylla, whom I like to call Kader tot.
Where do you get your groceries?
Usually Trader Joe’s’ cause there’s one so close by.
Where do you feel the most free?
At home and dancing on my patio!

Top and Shorts Hermès. Headpiece Iseder. Stockings Sarah Aphrodite. Shoes Diesel.
Where do you go when you want to escape the city?
I love a hike in Central Park. The farther you go in, the smaller the trails get, and it’s actually really beautiful. It’s reinvigorating to be surrounded by trees and streams.
Who makes the best bagel?
I have no idea. I honestly need to lock in and find out.
What’s the most New York thing about you?
The pace I walk and talk.
When was the last time you took the train?
Last week.

Jacket, Skirt, and Shoes Prada.
If you were mayor for a day, what would you change?
Weed accessibility. I’m an L.A. girl, who loves a good J. Eric Adams is low-key annoying. Had to be said.
If you could live in any era of New York, which one would it be?
Nineties supermodel era! I’m visualizing George Michael’s “Freedom! ’90” video.

I don’t gatekeep.
