Selena Gomez is officially out of the honeymoon stage—at least when it comes to her bridal fashion era.
Even after her wedding to Benny Blanco on September 27, Gomez seemed to be holding onto her all-white color palette while slowly working Rare Beauty burgundies back into her everyday wardrobe. However, it seems the siren call of the black wool coat was too great to ignore—or she simply wasn’t thinking nearly as hard about her sartorial color story as I have been. Either way, she just stepped out in an all-black look for a casual date with her husband amid the LA rainstorms.
On November 15, DeuxMoi shared a couple of photos of Gomez outside of Saffy’s restaurant wearing a faded black graphic tee under a black wool coat, which she paired with soft pants, chunky boots, and a black embossed Louis Vuitton logo bag. In keeping with the rainy day vibes, Gomez kept her makeup look minimal and dewy, tucking her slightly damp bob behind her ears. You can also see the effortlessly chic photos on Backgrid’s Instagram page, where you can better see her merlot manicure.
For the past few days, the rain in Los Angeles has Hollywood celebrities reaching for the same coat you’ll spot on every cool New York City commuter and celeb over the next few months. Before Selena Gomez stepped out for a date with Blanco, Margaret Qualley was seen wearing a similar coat to a screening of her new movie, Blue Moon, while Jennifer Aniston paired a black wool coat with a pair of cuffed cigarette jeans for her own date night with Jim Curtis.
Over in New York City, Jenna Ortega took an oversized approach to the same combo, pairing her slouchy wool robe coat with wide-leg cuffed jeans and platform boots. Meanwhile, Sabrina Carpenter recently paired her black wool coat and jeans with a burgundy bag and oversized plaid scarf for the most autumnal take on the cozy uniform. I can’t stress enough how many celebs are reaching for a version of this capsule staple at the moment.
I don’t know who’s behind this wool coat propoganda but it’s starting to work on me. Okay, it’s not really a conspiracy—the truth is that this coat is timeless, cozy, and pairs well with practically everything. No wonder Selena Gomez couldn’t resist the excuse to break out her own.
