So, we’re all wearing belts over our winter coats this season, right? Because Simone Ashley just became the bajillionth proof-of-concept for this styling hack.
November 25, the Bridgerton star was spotted on New York City’s lower east side wearing a boxy, cropped gray peacoat nipped at the waist with an oversized brown leather belt. This single accessory brings the whole look together, making a statement despite the fact that the coat is technically outerwear. Being outside is no excuse not to serve, after all.

We have seen this trick before. Notably, Ashley’s Bridgerton costar Nicola Coughlan wore a belted overcoat to a premiere in London back in 2024. Katie Holmes took the style a step further, wearing a thinner, more decorative, and more obviously not-outerwear gold belt over her cropped peacoat.
But Ashley’s Chloé riding coat may have been designed with a belt accessory in mind. It looks like Ashley is wearing the same coat seen on Alexa Chung back in October, which Chung also styled with a belt. In fact, Ashley seems to have taken many of her styling cues from the original Chloé look. She also wore the coat over a white button down shirt, and paired it with skinny capri pants and heels. But instead of denim, Ashley’s pedal pushers are black, and she traded the T-straps for gray velvet pumps.
