Kevin Jonas just broke the internet with a Camp Rock bombshell. The reveal? Kevin, Nick and Joe’s iconic characters aren’t actually brothers in the Disney Channel franchise, despite what an entire generation assumed.
The major clarification came during a fan game with iHeartRadio in December 2025, when Kevin was asked what his character Jason’s last name was.
“There’s never been a last name,” he responded, before adding, “See here’s the problem — we’re not brothers in the film. Watch the movie, there’s this alluded thing that we’re brothers, but we’re not brothers. I’m positive. In the first film, we met at the camp.”
For longtime fans, it was a genuine record scratch moment. In Camp Rock’s earliest scenes, Jason introduces Connect 3 by saying they “connected” at camp — hinting that they never actually knew each other before camp.
TikTok immediately lit up with theories. Some fans insisted the boys must be related because an “Uncle Larry” is referenced in Camp Rock 2 — though he mostly interacts with Shane (Joe). Others now believe they could be cousins. But Kevin says the ambiguity may be intentional.
“The lore is, maybe, but we never really say and we don’t really know,” he teased — possibly hinting that audiences may finally get answers in the upcoming Camp Rock 3.
If there were ever a time to clear things up, it would be now. Kevin, Joe and Nick are officially returning to their fictional boy-band roots as Connect 3 in the highly anticipated third film — 17 years after the original premiered in 2008. Demi Lovato, who played Mitchie Torres, is also back and producing alongside the Jonas Brothers.
Disney Branded Television recently confirmed filming is underway in Vancouver, with familiar faces returning — including Wizards of Waverly Place alum Maria Canals-Barrera as Mitchie’s mom, Connie.
The new generation of rockers joining the cast includes Liamani Segura, Malachi Barton, Lumi Pollack, Hudson Stone, Casey Trotter, Brooklynn Pitts and Ava Jean. And yes — the stakes sound just as dramatic as ever.
According to Disney’s official synopsis, the film picks up when Connect 3 lose their opening act for a reunion tour and return to Camp Rock to find the next big star. Friends become rivals, romances spark and campers fight to open for their idols.
