Victoria Jones, the daughter of Oscar-winning actor Tommy Lee Jones, has died at the age of 34.
Victoria was found unresponsive in the early hours of New Year’s Day at the Fairmont hotel in San Francisco, according to TMZ, which cited law enforcement sources. A spokesperson for the San Francisco Fire Department later confirmed the news, telling multiple outlets that emergency crews were dispatched to the luxury hotel at 2:52 a.m. local time.
“Our units responded to the scene, performed an assessment and declared one person deceased,” the spokesperson said, adding that the San Francisco Police Department and the medical examiner’s office then took over the investigation.
At this time, Victoria’s official cause of death has not been determined.
More details surrounding the tragic incident emerged after a 911 dispatch audio was obtained by TMZ. In the recording, the call was described as a “code 3 for the overdose, color change.” An overdose with a “color change” often refers to cyanosis, which is defined as a “discoloration of the skin, lips or fingernails caused by a lack of oxygen in the blood,” according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Despite the initial classification, Victoria was pronounced dead at the scene after paramedics arrived.
Authorities with the San Francisco Police Department reportedly arrived at the Fairmont around 3:14 a.m., per the Daily Mail, and the case was officially turned over to them for further investigation. According to the outlet, there were no signs of foul play, no drug paraphernalia found at the scene and no indication that her death was a suicide.
Several unanswered questions remain. It is still unclear whether Victoria was staying at the hotel as a guest or how she accessed the 14th floor, where she was found. The Daily Mail reported that a fellow hotel guest alerted staff after discovering Victoria unresponsive in a corridor.
Victoria was the second child of the Men in Black star and his second wife, Kimberlea Cloughley. She is survived by her older brother, Austin Jones, 43.
Though she largely lived outside the public eye, Victoria briefly followed in her famous father’s footsteps as a child. She appeared alongside him in Men in Black II and The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, the latter of which was directed by her dad. She also had a role on the popular TV series One Tree Hill.
Despite stepping away from acting later in life, Victoria occasionally joined her father at red carpet events, offering rare glimpses into their close bond.
Tommy Lee Jones previously spoke fondly of his daughter in a 2006 interview with The New Yorker, praising both her talent and intellect. “She is a good actress, has her sag card, speaks impeccable Spanish,” the actor said at the time.
He also said of her upbringing, “When she was a baby, I told Leticia, her nurse, to speak to her in Spanish.”
The investigation into Victoria Jones’ death remains ongoing, and authorities have not released additional details as they continue to gather information. As the Jones family navigates this devastating loss, officials are working to determine exactly what led to the tragic events of New Year’s Day.
