MGM+ has shared the first-look image from the upcoming drama series “Robin Hood,” debuting later this year.
The shot features Sean Bean (“Game of Thrones,” “The Lord of the Rings”) as the Sheriff of Nottingham alongside Connie Nielsen (“Gladiator,” “Wonder Woman”) as Eleanor of Aquitaine – offering “a glimpse at the tense rivalries and high-stakes power struggles at the heart of this reimagined take on the legendary tale,” according to a release.
MGM+ describes the show as a “smart, sweeping, romantic adventure that brings historical authenticity, psychological depth, and a heightened focus on the relationship between Rob and Marian.”
The logline for “Robin Hood” says, “Following the Norman invasion of England, Rob – a Saxon forester’s son – and Marian, the daughter of a Norman lord – fall in love and work together to fight for justice and freedom. As Rob rises as the leader of a band of rebel outlaws, Marian infiltrates the power at court, as both work together to thwart royal corruption and bring peace to the land.”
Jack Patten plays Rob and Lauren McQueen is Marian.
The series also stars Lydia Peckham (“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes”), Steven Waddington (“The Trap”), Marcus Fraser (“Foundation”), Angus Castle-Doughty (“Shadow and Bone”) and Henry Rowley.
The showrunner is John Glenn (“SEAL Team”) and the director is Jonathan English (“Librarians: The Next Chapter”). Glenn and English are writers and executive producers on the series.
Todd Lieberman of Hidden Pictures executive produces, with Carly Elter and Nicole Bryant of Hidden Pictures overseeing the project for the company.
In addition to premiering on MGM+ in the U.S., the series will be available to MGM+ viewers in the U.K., Italy, Germany, Spain, Latin America, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg.
