There are practices that allow us to connect and better understand our energy. These six rituals, inspired by traditions like the Hindu Festival of Lights, will help and teach you how to brighten your dark days and make room for creativity—with your loved ones, in your home, in love, in your health, and in your finances.
Six light rituals to brighten dark days
If you want to invite this energy into your life during early fall and winter, here are six rituals to brighten your days.
1. Illuminate your home or workplace
Fill your space with warm lights: candles and lanterns. Placing candles in windowsills, on desks, or nightstands can further symbolize your intention to send positive energy. If you have plants in your garden or indoors, you can decorate them with lights to keep the energy flowing and make your home feel cozy.

2. Awaken your creativity
In India, rangoli is a traditional art form drawn with chalk or colorful powders. Designed with flowers and geometric patterns, they are placed at the entrance of homes to welcome you and your loved ones. They also work to attract good fortune. You can create your own version. Invite your friends and family over for a moment of joy and creativity.
3. Listen and open your intuition
Try sitting in a quiet, peaceful place with a jar of water filled with rose or flower petals (or add a couple of small candles). Observe them in silence, practicing deep breathing exercises. This allows your mind to open to new ideas. When you’re finished, write down all the thoughts and salts you’ve perceived; these could be the answers to everything you’re seeking.
4. Open your heart to your emotions
When you light a candle this season, place your hand over your heart and visualize any emotional burdens. Remember the light you create is the same one that will guide you internally. When you blow out the candle, imagine that you are also turning off worries, anxieties, anger, negative energy, and unnecessary burdens.
5. Tie your intentions
Light a candle and take a few deep breaths. Think about everything you want to manifest in health, love, and money. With a red cord or ribbon, tie seven knots; each knot should be an affirmation or wish for what you’re asking for. For greater effect, wear it on your left wrist until it falls off on its own; it’ll be a good sign that all the energy is doing its job.
