Can you believe it’s been 25 years since Gilmore Girls first premiered? To mark the milestone, a brand-new documentary is officially in the works. Titled Searching for Stars Hollow, the film will celebrate the beloved series’ legacy and shine a spotlight on its lasting cultural impact. While plenty of familiar faces are confirmed to participate, two major stars appear to be sitting this one out: Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel.
Who Will Be Featured in the Documentary?
Searching for Stars Hollow has already lined up interviews with an impressive roster of cast and crew members. According to The Hollywood Reporter, participants include Kelly Bishop, Jared Padalecki, Chad Michael Murray, Keiko Agena, Sally Struthers, Liz Torres, Emily Kuroda, Rose Abdoo, Kathleen Wilhoite, Matt Jones, Grant Lee Phillips, director Jamie Babbit, writer and producer Stan Zimmerman and casting directors Jami Rudofsky and Mara Casey. Even Kevin T. Porter, cohost of the Gilmore Guys podcast, has signed on to share insights.
Are Lauren Graham and Alexis Featured in the Documentary?
Despite the excitement, Lauren (Lorelai Gilmore) and Alexis (Rory Gilmore) have not been confirmed as part of the lineup—at least not yet. Their absence has already sparked conversation among fans who see the mother-daughter duo as the heart of the show.
One fan wrote on X, “lauren graham pick up the phone!!” while another posted: “and if they don’t get lauren and alexis for this doc, then what?! 😭 both of them are not confirmed yet but IM ALREADY SAT NO MATTER WHAT.”
The series originally aired from 2000 to 2007, running for seven seasons. Created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, it followed thirtysomething single mom Lorelai Gilmore and her relationship with her teenage daughter, Rory, in the tight-knit town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut.
The show became known for its witty, fast-paced dialogue, pop culture references, and its portrayal of complicated family dynamics. Nearly a decade after the series wrapped, Netflix revived it with Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life in 2016, introducing the story to a new generation of fans.
The documentary promises to deliver a deeper look into the history and cultural significance of Gilmore Girls. According to its Kickstarter page, the film “transforms the story you thought you knew of how Gilmore Girls came to life” by weaving together behind-the-scenes anecdotes, never-before-seen interviews, and untold stories from the writers, directors and crew.
When Will ‘Searching for Stars Hollow’ Premiere?
At this time, no official release date has been set for the documentary. The project, produced by Ink On Paper Studios, is currently raising support through Kickstarter. Fans interested in following its progress—and potentially contributing—can track updates on the platform.
