Lil Nas X is opening up about his recent arrest in Los Angeles, calling the experience “terrifying” but reassuring fans that he is doing okay.
“You girl is going to be OK, y’all,” the rapper, 26, said via Instagram Story on Tuesday, August 26. “She’s going to be alright. She’s going to alright. S***. That was f***ing terrifying. That was terrifying. That was a terrifying last four days, but your girl is going to be alright.”
The arrest took place on August 21, when the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) confirmed to *Us Weekly* that officers had responded to calls regarding “a nude man walking in the street.” While the LAPD did not identify Lil Nas X by name, a spokesperson explained that the individual in question allegedly attempted to “batter an officer,” resulting in a booking for battery of a peace officer.
On August 25, TMZ reported that Lil Nas X (real name Montero Lamar Hill) had been charged with four felonies, including battery with injury on a police officer. At the time, bail had not yet been set, and the rapper was scheduled to be arraigned that same day. Viral footage circulating online appeared to show him wearing a traffic cone atop his head while speaking to himself about attending a party. Representatives for Lil Nas X have not yet commented on the footage.
This unsettling incident follows a series of personal health challenges for the rapper. In April, Lil Nas X revealed he had recently been hospitalized after losing control of half of his face. Posting from his hospital bed on Instagram, he shared a video with the caption, “Soooo lost control of the right side of my face 😭.” Attempting to smile, he added, “This is me doing a full smile, by the way,” and expressed his shock: “I can’t even laugh, bro! What the f***? Oh, my God.”
Earlier this year, in February, the Montero star candidly reflected on the difficulties he has faced over the last few years. “These last few years were pretty difficult for me,” he said in a video shared via X. “I’m just now arriving to this place of feeling confidence in myself and what I’m doing, and I’m trying to make sure I put intention towards my music and my vision and the creativity of it all.”
Lil Nas X’s pretrial hearing is scheduled for September 15. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.
