Meghan Markle is officially back in front of the camera! The Duchess of Sussex is making her highly anticipated return to acting with Close Personal Friends — a new romantic comedy from Amazon MGM Studios starring Lily Collins, Brie Larson, Henry Golding and Jack Quaid.
According to The Sun, Meghan was spotted filming in Pasadena, California, on November 5 and is reportedly playing herself in the film. This marks her first acting role since Suits, the hit legal drama she left in 2017 before marrying Prince Harry.
The project is directed by Jason Orley (Bupkis, I Want You Back) and written by Isaac Aptaker (How I Met Your Father, I Want You Back). While details about the movie’s plot remain under wraps, a studio insider told The Sun that Meghan’s involvement is “a massive moment” for her and represents “a return to doing what she truly loves.”
“She has been swamped with offers but this one felt right,” the insider shared. “It is Meghan’s way of gently putting her toe back in the water and seeing how she enjoys being back on set. Everyone involved is super-excited, and have been sworn to secrecy about her involvement. Prince Harry is, of course, really supportive and quite simply wants Meghan to do whatever brings her joy.”
Collins, who’s starring in the film, even posted a behind-the-scenes photo on Instagram with her co-stars, captioning it, “Close (personal) friends only…” Golding replied, “💃🏼🎉The 4 best friends anybody ever had 🎉💃🏼,” while Quaid added a few simple red heart emojis.
A source who was on set told People that Meghan appeared “very relaxed and happy” during filming. “She introduced herself to everyone and was very sweet and down-to-earth,” the insider revealed. “She has a small part, but she seemed really happy to be back on set.”
While Close Personal Friends doesn’t yet have an official release date, anticipation is already sky-high.
