The actress also discussed the writing of Elphaba’s new song, “No Place Like Home”
Cynthia Erivo stopped by The Tonight Show to discuss Wicked: For Good, the film’s new songs, and her book Simply More.
During the interview, host Jimmy Fallon asked Erivo to rank the songs she performs in the sequel based on which one she loves to sing the most. “This is like picking your favorite children,” the actress noted. When Fallon explained it would be a blind ranking, she added that she might need to cheat. Ultimately, Erivo did cheat on the order of songs, forcing Fallon to realign the ranking with “What Is This Feeling Last?” and “Defying Gravity” first.
Erivo also discussed “No Place Like Home,” the new song she wrote for Wicked: For Good with composer Stephen Schwartz.
“He had made this song, and then as the film progressed, as we made this film, we realized that things needed to be shifted and changed,” she explained of the process. “I remember that we had a call and I was on my floor in my house, at I don’t know what time o’clock, and he was on Zoom and we’re over the phone going back and forth about lyrics and different things. It was just such a privilege to be in the space of Stephen Schwartz working on something. You’re just hoping you’re not making any mistakes and saying anything stupid.”
Wicked: For Good‘s new songs are “The Girl in the Bubble” and “No Place Like Home.” They will be released as part of the film’s soundtrack on Nov. 21. Because they are original songs for the movie it is likely both will be eligible to be nominated for the Oscar for Best Original Song (unlike the other songs from the films).
Wicked: For Good hits theaters on Nov. 21, 2025. Along with Grande and Erivo, the film stars Jonathan Bailey as Prince Fiyero, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, and Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard. The rest of the cast includes Marissa Bode, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, and Bronwyn James.
