Charli xcx plays a pop star very much like herself in the teaser trailer for her new movie The Moment.
A24 releases writer-director Aidan Zamiri’s feature in theaters nationwide Jan. 26, 2026. Alexander Skarsgård, Rosanna Arquette, Isaac Cole Powell, Kate Berlant, Rish Shah and Jamie Demetriou round out the cast. Rachel Sennott and Kylie Jenner also appear in the film.
Based on an original idea from Charli xcx, The Moment centers on a buzzy pop star dealing with the demands of stardom ahead of her first arena tour. Although the film is scripted, Charli xcx appears to play a version of herself, and signage featuring her real name and album title Brat can be seen in the footage. Alas, the trailer does not convey much about the plot.
“When I felt like people started to care about me, nothing else mattered,” Charli xcx says in the trailer (below). “Nothing was more important than Brat.”
Zamiri makes his feature directorial debut from a script he co-wrote with Bertie Brandes. Charli xcx and David Hinojosa serve as producers.
Charli xcx is a Grammy-winning musician known for the 2024 album Brat and such previous hits as “I Love It” and “Boom Clap.” She has been recently racking up more onscreen feature credits, including roles in such forthcoming films as Faces of Death, I Want Your Sex, The Gallerist and A Tree Is Blue, with the latter being Dakota Johnson’s directorial debut.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Charli xcx clarified that The Moment is fiction, deeming it “a 2024 period piece.” She added, “It’s not a tour documentary or a concert film in any way, but the seed of the idea was conceived from this idea of being pressured to make one.”
