“Stranger Things” star David Harbour is the latest addition to the cast of “John Rambo,” the origin story of the franchise. Harbour will play Rambo’s commanding officer Major Trautman in the film directed by Jalmari Helander (“Sisu”), Variety has confirmed.
Noah Centineo stars as John Rambo, the one-man fighting force. The “John Rambo” story takes place before 1982’s “First Blood,” the Sylvester Stallone movie that started the popular Rambo franchise. The John Rambo character was a Vietnam veteran and Special Forces soldier who is the last surviving member of his unit. Though traumatized by his Vietnam experience, he developed military skills that he used to fight corrupt police and drug cartels.
“John Rambo” has wrapped production in Thailand. Also appearing in the film are Yao (“Sinners”), Jason Tobin (“A Thousand Blows”), Quincy Isaiah (“Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty”), Jefferson White (“Yellowstone”) and Tayme Thapthimthong (“The White Lotus”).
Two-time Emmy nominee Harbour is currently appearing as Floyd Smernitch in “DTF St. Louis,” and recently starred in “Stranger Things” and “Thunderbolts*.” He has a big year coming up with “Avengers: Doomsday” in December plus “Violent Night 2” and “Evil Genius,” and he’s also in production on Lionsgate’s “A Head Full of Ghosts.”
Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani wrote the screenplay for “John Rambo,” which is produced by Lionsgate, Millennium Media, Templeton Media and AGBO, and will be distributed by Lionsgate.
Producers are Kevin King Templeton for Templeton Media, Les Weldon, Jonathan Yunger for Millennium Media, and Angela Russo-Otstot and Michael Disco for AGBO. Executive producers include Anthony and Joe Russo, Trevor Short, and Dallas Sonnier and Amanda Presmyk for Bonfire Legend, alongside Stallone. The film is produced by Lionsgate, Millennium Media, Templeton Media, and AGBO, and will be distributed by Lionsgate.
Harbour is represented by WME and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
