Quiver Distribution has picked up North American digital rights for writer-director Pavan Moondi’s Canadian romantic comedy “Middle Life,” which will see a limited U.S. theatrical release this summer before hitting VOD in late fall.
The indie film stars Leah Fay Goldstein and Peter Dreimanis, real-life partners and the lead singers of Canadian alternative rock band July Talk. Dreimanis made his screen debut in Ryan Coogler’s Oscar-winning “Sinners.” “Middle Life” also features Luke Lalonde (“Sundowners”), Norah Sadava (“Mouthpiece”) and Colin Burgess (“Dad and Step Dad,” “Free Time”).
The film follows Andie (Goldstein), a perfectionist wedding planner in her mid-30s and new mother, who has meticulously crafted her life but still feels unfulfilled. Fresh off maternity leave, she saves Ryan (Dreimanis), a blue-collar plumber, from a roadside accident. As their paths intertwine over the next year, her craving for change and his newfound perspective on life spark an unexpected connection, leading them to discover that life could be great.
“Middle Life” was produced by Dreimanis, Moondi and Goldstein along with Jared Raab and Dean Perlmutter, with Raab (“Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie,” “BlackBerry”) also serving as cinematographer. The film features an original score by Ben Fox.
Moondi shot “Middle Life” in both Toronto – where he is from – and Los Angeles, where he is currently based. It marks his latest feature following indies “Diamond Tongues” and “Sundowners,” as well as a stint in the “Schitt’s Creek” writers room, continuing his focus on idiosyncratic but character-driven comedy and drama – this time in the mold of a big-hearted, throwback romantic comedy.
“We tried to make a good ol’ fashioned crowd-pleaser of a movie, and we’re very grateful to Laemmle for letting us get out there and start pleasuring crowds,” Moondi said, quipping, “Not like that.”
In addition to its U.S. theatrical rollout, Quiver has acquired North American digital rights to “Middle Life,” with a digital release planned for late fall 2026. The deal with Quiver was negotiated directly by the filmmakers with Quiver’s Larry Greenberg.
The film begins its U.S. theatrical release with a week-long Los Angeles engagement at Laemmle Glendale from July 31 through Aug. 6, preceded by two special sneak preview screenings featuring cast and crew Q&As on July 29 at Laemmle NoHo and July 30 at Laemmle Royal.
In Canada, “Middle Life” has partnered with Cineplex, including a one-night event screening in 13 cities across the country on June 10 in addition to a week-long theatrical run at Toronto’s Cineplex Yonge-Dundas beginning June 5.
Named one of The Globe and Mail’s Top 10 Canadian Films of 2025, “Middle Life” previously screened at both the Calgary and Vancouver Film Festivals.
