Eric Stonestreet praised Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce for creating a sense of “normalcy” at their wedding despite its huge scale. In a new interview with People, the Modern Family actor discussed being invited to the famous couple’s recent nuptials at Madison Square Garden.
“It was awesome,” Stonestreet said. “I mean, I think you’ve read everything that there is to be said about it.”
The actor attended with his wife Lindsay Schweitzer and noted, “We were just very conscious of being respectful to the couple. I didn’t want to peep before. I didn’t want to peep after. And then once people started putting stuff out there, of course we were proud to be invited.”
Stonestreet explained he was invited because he knows Swift “a little bit” and presented her with Favorite Country Female Artist at the American Music Awards in 2012. “We’ve seen Travis from when he was drafted and we’ve seen him through different phases of his life,” he said. “So when they started dating, we were so happy for him. But we were also happy for Taylor because we know what kind of human being Travis is. So we were excited to celebrate their love with them and a few other people in New York City, and it was just a treat to be there.”
He said he was impressed by how normal the wedding felt. “I think my favorite moment was just that they created a place that they could have the normalcy that they deserve,” he recounted. “And it just happened to be at Madison Square Garden with security making sure everybody was safe and good and they could just have a night for themselves.”
Stonestreet added, “I really thought of it as what a gift they gave to us too. It’s one thing nobody’s talking about is what a gesture it was to those people that they invited and to welcome us and to provide such an incredible night and then to provide such incredible generous donations to charities in New York and Kansas City and everywhere else.”
Swift and Kelce tied the knot at Madison Square Garden in New York City on July 3 in front of approximately 1,000 guests. There were no large wedding parties, with Swift’s brother, Austin, serving as her “man of honor,” while Kelce’s brother, Jason, was his best man. Adam Sandler officiated the ceremony, offering them some simple advice: “Kiss every chance you have, every day.”
