Never Alone: 1997–2004 Raving in Europe, a new photo book by Cheyenne Clementi and Valentina Morandi, revisits the free-party movement that spread across Europe at the turn of the millennium, when artists and nomads transformed forests, fields, and abandoned warehouses into personal utopias and avenues for escape. Drawn from more than 160 analogue photographs, the book captures both the ecstatic highs of the dance floor and the quieter rituals of life in transit. What gives the photos so much presence is the fact that Clementi and Morandi weren’t documenting a scene from the outside, but they were in fact living it themselves. Every frame carries the particular warmth and trust of a community photographing itself.
