Gwyneth Paltrow wasn’t happy about her ex Brad Pitt moving on with Jennifer Aniston, a new biography reveals. In an excerpt of Amy Odell’s upcoming volume, out July 29, the author claims that Paltrow put up a front in public.
At the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of her film Duets in 2000, her eyes became “daggers” after she was questioned about Pitt’s marriage to Aniston. After Paltrow and the Fight Club star split up in 1997, he married Aniston within three years.

“The reporter then asked how she felt about Brad Pitt marrying Jennifer Aniston [in July of that year]. ‘Are you really asking me this question?’ Gwyneth replied, her eyes now ‘daggers,'” the excerpt of Gwyneth: The Biography, published in Us Weekly, reads. “‘I can’t comment on this kind of thing.’ In reality, Gwyneth confided to friends that she’d felt sad when she learned they were getting married. (She was also fond of telling them that Brad ‘has terrible taste in women.’)”
Later, at a business meeting with Aerin Lauder—heiress to the Estée Lauder company, which would go on to make Paltrow the face of its Pleasures fragrance—the Shakespeare in Love star didn’t hold back when discussing her ex.

“At one dinner, the two were talking about Brad Pitt. According to someone familiar with the discussion, Gwyneth allegedly told her, ‘He’s dumber than a sack of shit.'”
In an interview with People, Odell explained why Paltrow and Pitt weren’t compatible.
“He was brought up very religious, in Missouri,” she said. “It’s just a very different world from hers, growing up in Manhattan, going to Spence, I think she thought he wasn’t sophisticated enough for her. She thought she was smarter, better educated, more sophisticated.”
Paltrow and Pitt began dating in 1994 before getting engaged in 1996.
