To not know Anne Hathaway started filming The Devil Wears Prada 2 would mean you’ve spent no time on the internet this week. If that’s the case, good for you, but for me, someone chronically online, Andy Sachs’s newest looks are already seared into my brain. Namely, one high-low pairing: Hathaway wore a maxi denim skirt, simple white tank, and swapped out those Chanel boots for the designer’s sporty-chic slingback sandals.
The reason this outfit stuck out was because it wasn’t the first time this season I’ve seen those practical sandals. Earlier this summer, Martha Stewart also wore chunky designer slingbacks.

Both of their sandals featured thick velcro straps across the foot, a comfortable strap that secured around the ankle, and a small-but-sturdy platform sole; the look is comfy, practical, and kind of chic. Since both opted for styles way out of my budget, I found slingback sandals that can get me their look for less, starting at just $30.
8 Slingback Sandals
Project Cloud Platform Sandals
Amazon
The most affordable lookalike is this pair of slingback sandals from Project Cloud, which are on sale at Amazon for just $30. In addition to a comfortable molded footbed, these have expensive-looking gold accents on the straps, making them a good dupe for Stewart’s designer pair.
Birkenstock Milano Big Buckle Sandals
Birkenstock
If, like many of our editors, you’re loyal to Birkenstock’s sandals, the brand’s Milano Big Buckle slingback sandals get you the celebrity-loved look. These have big, eye-catching buckles at the straps (though I love their look, they also help you get the perfect fit) and a cork footbed that molds to your foot.
Marc Fisher LTD Lenore Sandals
Nordstrom Rack
Woven leather details are trending this summer; at Nordstrom Rack, you can grab Marc Fisher’s black slingblack sandals with that expensive-looking touch for 60 percent off. Those woven straps make this style stand out from others, but given that they’re still a classic black, you can expect these to be just as versatile as Hathaway or Stewart’s pair.
Sorel Dayspring Crisscross Sandals
Nordstrom
Sorel’s Dayspring sandals offer a little lift thanks to their two-inch platform. With platform sandals having a moment this summer, this shoe, which combines the practical ankle strap with the outfit-elevating heel, is one to grab.
Coach Brynn Sandals
Coach
Coach’s Brynn sandals are my personal favorite. I love their crocheted straps (crochet will always be a staple of summer) and the white contrast trim. But these are also available in six other colors, including a bubble gum pink and white lace.
J.Crew Carsen Slingback Sandals
J. Crew
While both stars opted for chunky sandals, J.Crew’s Carsen slingbacks offer a more streamlined look. They also have adjustable straps that are finished with chic buckles and, right now, are an extra 40 percent off with the code HELLOSALE.
Tory Burch Kira Sport Sandals
Tory Burch
While a bit of a splurge, Tory Burch’s chunky Kira Sport sandals—made with a leather upper and molded footbed—are the top-rated pick on my list. They have hundreds of five-star reviews, with fans raving that they are “comfortable and chic at the same time.”
Vicenza Big City Sandals

If you prefer chic to sporty, Vicenza’s Big City sandals are the ones you want. The straps are adorned with big gold studs that instantly elevate the shoes. Of course, you’re still getting that practical slingback strap that makes this style so easy to wear.
