Oscar Isaac is clarifying where he stands on returning to Star Wars and it’s more complicated than it was a few months ago.
Back in August, ahead of the Venice Film Festival, the actor told Variety he’d be open to playing Poe Dameron again one day.
But a few weeks later, Disney-owned ABC temporarily suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! over the late-night host’s remarks about the shooting death of Charlie Kirk and that appeared to change how Oscar feels about working with the company right now.

In a new interview with GQ (via Variety)—which took place just two days after Jimmy‘s suspension—the 46-year-old actor said: “Yeah. I mean, I’d be open to it, although right now I’m not so open to working with Disney. But if they can kinda figure it out and, you know, not succumb to fascism, that would be great… if that happens, then yeah, I’d be open to having a conversation about a galaxy far away. Or any number of other things.”
Jimmy‘s suspension came after his September 15 monologue, where he made a joke about “MAGA” trying to characterize Charlie‘s shooter “as anything other than one of them.” He was back on air just over a week later.
The Frankenstein star’s hesitation isn’t brand new. In 2020, he said the movies were not really what he “set out to do” and joked he’d only revisit the franchise if he needed “another house or something.”
Oscar reflected on that quote to GQ, noting that it wasn’t his finest moment and calling his comment “a slightly d–kish thing.”
The actor and his Frankenstein co-star Jacob Elordi recently shared a tender moment at a red carpet event! See the pics here.
