In FX’s adaptation of The Shards, Igby Rigney has a tall order. He plays Bret, the teenage proxy for Bret Easton Ellis and the nervous center of the story’s increasingly sinister high school universe. He also seems to be the only one appropriately suspicious of Robert Mallory (played by Homer Gere), the mysterious newcomer who’s about to wreak havoc on everyone’s lives. In the series, which premiered earlier this month, Rigney lives up to the task, turning Bret into a bundle of nerves with an easy charm, trying to make sense of the strange world around him and stumbling through his own closeted coming-of-age dramas in the process. Off-screen, though, the 23-year-old actor seems considerably more at ease. To get to know the rising star, we gave him a questionnaire to find out what makes him tick.
