Terence Stamp, the English actor best known for playing General Zod in the Superman films, has sadly died at 87.
His family confirmed the news of his passing on Sunday morning (August 17) to Reuters in a statement, saying, “He leaves behind an extraordinary body of work, both as an actor and as a writer that will continue to touch and inspire people for years to come.”
The cause of his passing was not made public.

The London-born actor launched his career in the 1960s with acclaimed performances in films like Billy Budd, which earned him an Oscar nomination, The Collector, and Far From the Madding Crowd. His early career made him one of the brightest new stars of British cinema.
He later gained international recognition as the menacing villain General Zod in 1978’s Superman and 1980’s Superman II, a role that remains one of the most iconic in the comic book movie genre. Decades later, he returned to the franchise in a new way, voicing Jor-El on the TV series Smallville.
Terence also appeared in a wide range of notable films across six decades, including The Limey, Wall Street, Young Guns, Alien Nation, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, and Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. More recently, he was seen in Tim Burton’s Big Eyes and the British drama Unfinished Song.
Beyond acting, he published several books and autobiographies, and his career spanned stage, film, and television.
